Sorry I missed the devo on Saturday. For those of you who missed it, here it is. Blessings.
--------------------------------------------------
From the very first day of the
church, the followers of Jesus were actively engaged in service. An early act
of the Apostles recorded in Acts 6:1-3 was to designate certain members of the
church to serve a very specific population, the widows. This was done so that
the Apostles could continue service in the specific ways God had called them.
This decision and
the acts of service that followed are recorded in Acts 6:7; “So the word of God
spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rap faith” (NIV). A serving church, a truly serving church, leaves
its mark and makes a positive impact.
Today marks the
beginning of a concentrated effort by many people in many locations to serve
God and serve others. Some are beginning a full week of service, while others
will serve for a day or two. Everyone will be giving a part of their lives in
an act of service designed to provide housing or make improvements on existing housing or ministry
property.
While you serve in
this great effort, there will be many opportunities to touch lives and make a
difference. Open your eyes, ears, and heart to ways that God may lead you to
serve in addition to the building project where you are involved. Get to know
the people around you. Ask questions and listen to them to learn more about
what is going on in their lives. Pray with those who need prayer. Encourage
those who need encouragement. Teach those who are learning. Be a friend and
companion. You will have a great and memorable time of serving as you do these
things.
Respond:
How satisfied are you in general
with your level of serving in your life these days?
If you believe that you should and
could step up your level of serving, ask God to speak to you this week
regarding your level of service.
Listen to those around you, and observe how they serve and what it means
to them. How has serving made a difference in their lives?
